How to Choose the Right Bulb Type for Snowmobile LED Headlights (H4, H13, 880 Explained)

How to Pick the Right LED Headlight Bulb Type for Your Snowmobile

Upgrading your snowmobile’s headlights to LED is one of the smartest moves you can make — but only if you choose the correct bulb type for your sled.

Whether you ride a Polaris, Ski-Doo, Arctic Cat, or Yamaha, here’s how to make sure you get the right fit and avoid the most common LED installation mistakes.

🔍

Step 1: Know Your Bulb Type (H4, H13, 880, or Custom)

Most snowmobiles use one of these bulb types:

  • H4 – A dual-beam bulb found on many Polaris, Arctic Cat, Ski-Doo, and Yamaha sleds
  • H13 – Common on newer models across all brands
  • 880 – Frequently found on older sleds or machines with four separate bulbs (2 low beam + 2 high beam)
  • Custom/proprietary bulbs – Found on vintage or premium models with non-standard housings

To confirm your bulb type:

  • Check your owner’s manual
  • Look at the existing bulb — the type (H4, H13, 880) is usually stamped on the base
  • Use our Fitment Tool by entering your year, make, and model
  • Or simply Google your sled model + “headlight bulb type”
  • Still unsure? Contact Us and we’ll tell you exactly what fits.

🛠️

Step 2: Use the Fitment Tool for Instant Results

Our Snowmobile LED Headlights page has a built-in fitment tool so you can quickly find the exact LED kit for your sled. Just plug in your machine’s year, make, and model — no guesswork, no hassle.

Step 3: AC vs DC Power – What You Need to Know

Some sleds (especially Polaris and Arctic Cat) run AC power. LEDs require DC power — but don’t worry. We have you covered.

✅ Just add one of our plug-and-play inline rectifiers, and you’re ready to run LEDs even on AC-powered snowmobiles.

Brands like Ski-Doo and Yamaha usually run DC by default, so most of their models don’t need a rectifier.

🧤

Step 4: Wear Gloves During Install (Seriously)

Your LED bulbs contain sensitive electronics. Oils from your hands can damage chipsets or cause premature failure. That’s why it’s critical to:

  • Wear nitrile or latex gloves
  • Avoid touching the fan or LED chips
  • Follow the install guide provided

➡️ Failure to wear gloves can void your lifetime warranty.

Step 5: Choose Standard vs High Power Series

We offer two levels of brightness — both trail-tested and snow-ready:

  • Standard Series LED Kits
✅ Ideal for casual riders, general trail use, and plug-and-play installs
  • High Power Series LED Kits
    ✅ 130W | 13,000 lumens | Turbo-cooled
✅ Built for aggressive night riders, wide-open trail systems, or mountain adventures
