How to Maintain Your LED Headlights Through Winter: Powersport Rider’s Guide

🧊 How to Maintain Your LED Headlights Through Winter

Powersport Rider’s Guide

Your LED headlights power through snow, ice, vibration, and sub-zero temps — but they still need protection. Whether you’re riding a Ski-Doo, Polaris, or Can-Am, here’s how to make sure your LED lights stay reliable and bright all winter long.

1.

Inspect Seals & Housing After Every Ride

Snow and ice buildup can sneak into worn seals or cracked housings. After every ride:

  • Wipe down the lens and housing
  • Check for condensation or fogging
  • Clear ice from around the seals to avoid cracking

💡 LEDPowersport kits are fully sealed, but weather can still compromise older housings — stay ahead of it.

2.

Avoid Pressure Washing the Light Directly

Use warm water and a cloth, not a high-powered sprayer. Pressure washers can force moisture past seals and into the electrical system — even on sealed kits.

3.

Check Wiring & Plugs for Corrosion

Cold weather plus road salt = corrosion risk. Every few rides:

  • Inspect the plug terminals for green or white buildup
  • Re-seat plugs to ensure clean contact
  • Use dielectric grease if needed

4.

Keep Snow Off the Heatsinks

Our green anodized heatsinks are designed to stay cool — but they need airflow. Make sure snow, mud, or gear isn’t packed around the rear of the bulb.

❄️ A blocked heatsink = reduced performance and shorter lifespan.

5.

Don’t Touch the Bulb with Bare Hands

If you’re ever reinstalling or swapping bulbs, always wear nitrile gloves. Even a bit of skin oil can cause uneven heating and reduce the lifespan of your LED chips.

6.

Test Before You Ride

Before every big ride, flip on your lights. Make sure:

  • Both beams fire instantly
  • No flickering or dim output
  • No warning lights on your dash (if applicable)
